World Hand Hygiene Day

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) May 5th is World Hand Hygiene Day. Washing your hands is one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. With the pandemic taking a toll on our daily lives it is especially important to practice good hand hygiene.

Here are 5 steps to follow to wash your hand the right way:

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to also lather the backs of your hands, you wrists, between your fingers, and under your nails
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water
  5. Use a clean paper towel to turn off the faucet and use another to dry your hands

Washing your hands with soap and water is always the best method to keeping your hands clean. Hand sanitizer is great to use in between washes but it should not be used in place of tradition hand washing.

How to use hand sanitizer

  1. Apply one pump of product on the palm of your hands
  2. Rub your hands together to distribute the product. Be sure to get in between your fingers
  3. Allow your hands to dry. DO NOT wipe off the access product. Your hands need at least 20 seconds to dry completely for the product to be effective.
